Summer Balfanz Advocacy for a Smoke Free Generation
Summer Balfanz serves with Minnesotans for a Smoke Free Generation as a student coalition member representing the City of Roseville. Her advocacy work focuses on reducing teen smoking and vaping through outreach and education. Her responsibilities have also included creating posters and promotional materials that communicate health education messages to the community. During the Minnesota legislative session, Summer Balfanz lobbied state representatives in support of anti-smoking, anti-vaping, and bills related to flavored tobacco.
Additionally, Summer Balfanz has contributed creative work to the organization’s outreach efforts. The organization selected her artwork for a marketing campaign and subsequent mass production and distribution. Summer Balfanz has also volunteered with Roseville Parks and Recreation, helping with invasive plant removal.
At Roseville Area High School, Summer Balfanz maintained Honor Roll status and participated in several school activities. Her school record includes the Speech Team, JV cross country, and the JV Nordic Ski Team. She has also participated in educational travel programs, including an overseas tour focused on the Capitals of Scandinavia, and aims to use media, marketing, writing, and public speaking skills to influence political and business systems.
Outside of her advocacy work, Summer Balfanz enjoys exploring national parks, visiting universities, and surfing.
